EGGstravaganza like no other
Mardi Bowen, Minister with Children

Easter @ FirstChurch

Easter is my favorite holiday. As Christians, everything we believe centers on Easter. In the joy of the season, we celebrate new life.

Eggs, bunnies and lilies surround us.  We remember the youthful excitement of the Easter egg hunt.

Times are different now. The eggs are plastic, filled with candy or trinkets. The Easter Bunny appears at most Easter egg hunts.

But some things are still the same: the baskets, the smiles, the giggles.

There are many Easter celebrations, but few like the Community Easter EGGstravaganza at FirstChurch.

This free annual event for the entire community takes place Saturday, April 7, 10:30am-12:30pm on the FirstChurch lawn.

There are bounce houses and slides, A Toddler Zone for younger guests.

Upbeat party music. And live entertainment from Ben Christensen, who offers his own special brand of juggling, magic and comedy.

This year’s Easter EGGstravaganza at FirstChurch also features the second annual Journey to the Cross, an opportunity to deepen our faith by ‘walking’ the Easter Story.

Journey to the Cross depicts the final days of Jesus’ life before the crucifixion, the cross and the empty tomb.

Each scene includes live actors and narration in both Spanish and English.

Journey to the Cross is a wonderful way to help children understand the Easter story.

Of course, the highlight of the day is the Easter egg hunt. Actually, four Easter egg hunts, each intended for a different age group.

These may best be described as Easter egg ’scrambles’ with children scurrying to claim their share of more than 20,000 brightly colored plastic eggs just waiting to be picked up.

The Easter Bunny is available for photos. There are also sack races, games and a mission booth sponsored by the FirstChurch Mission Possible Kids.

Perhaps the best part of the day is how this event brings together families of every ethnic background, people with disabilities and from all walks of life to enjoy a time of fun and Christian fellowship.

Families are invited to bring a blanket and a picnic. Lunch concessions are also available.
