Children's Council
What are the functions of the committee?
- The Children's Council serves as an advisory panel to the Minister with Children and First Church.
- The Council determines agenda for Children's Ministry events, and action plans to deliver.
- The Council works within a budget as directed by the Children's Ministry to host all events.
- The Council supports any chairperson of major events in Children's Ministries.
- The Council provides support to the Nursery committee and pastoral staff.
What is the makeup of the committee?
- The council is comprised of parents, grandparents and educators.
What has the commttee done most recently?
- Major accomplishments the first half of the year include a successful Easter Eggstravaganza celebration complete with petting zoo and egg hunt for all age groups, VBS with nearly 400 children in attendance, Cowabunga Summer Camps, an off-campus social event for each age/grade for the end of the year celebrations, and summer time "Wacky" Wednesdays themed programming.
- For the second half of 2009, the council has been working with Mardi to revamp Sunday school programming for the fall kick-off, and introducing a new program, Mission Possible Kids, that will provide a structured way for kids K-5th grade to be involved with mission projects throughout the year in a fun, exciting program.
How often does the committee meet?
- We meet the 2nd Monday of the month for approximately one hour.
- Special commications occur through email to keep information flowing between meetings.
What is the time commitment of someone who serves on the committee?
- We ask everyone to attend as many meetings as possible.
- We ask each committee person to consider serving on one or more event committee for the calendar year. By this process, we cover many of our commitments with council volunteers.

What else would be helpful for a first time committee member to know?
- We are a council that strives to find ways for the children and their families to feel connected at First Church. Our goal is to stay in tune with the Deeper Discipleship stradegy plan.
