Adult Sunday School Classes
Adult Sunday School classes at First Church are intended to give members a chance to affiliate with a small group for learning, mutual support, and service to the church and community. Each class has a different size, character, and learning style! Below are the names of the various classes, their current location, their approximate size, and a brief description of the "character" of the class. If you're looking for a group to join for learning, making bonds of friendship and support, and mutual service, each one of our classes will gladly receive you. You're always welcome to "just to visit", too!
First church is offering two Sunday School hours: 9:45-10:45 a.m., and 11 a.m.-noon. New classes are started every few months.

Key To Class Sizes: "Small" means an average attendance of 15 or less; "Medium" designates a class whose average attendance is 16-30; "Large" designates a class whose average attendance is 31 or more. 9:45 Adult Sunday School Hour
Beyond the Vows - Age Range: 20's-40's / Room 215This class works specifically with families of younger children. Members regularly discuss issues related to Christian parenting and personal spiritual growth in the midst of a household with little ones. Medium Sized Class Burke Class - Age Range: 55+ / ChapelOur former Associate Pastor, Ralph Burke, started this lecture style group. Large Class Eleventh Hour - Age Range: 50+ / Room 205Reaching out to others while loving and caring for each other is the mission of the Eleventh Hour Class. A warm welcome is waiting for you in our Sunday School family. Medium Sized Class Everyday Christians - 30-55 / Room 212This is a new class for multiple age-groups, dedicated to studying the Bible and thinking about God’s will in our daily lives. Small Class Explorers - Age Range: 30's-50's / Room 216This group is targeted to professionals wanting to explore the peaks and valleys of the Bible stories that most intrigue us. Medium Sized Class Families in Faith - Various Ages / Room 228Includes parents of various ages whose children are of various ages. A wide variety of topics are covered in the class studies: Bible, doctrine, contemporary social and ethical issues, and studies on family issues. Large Class First Church Singles - Adults of all ages / Room 229Come for fellowship and learn from Scripture about God's love for singles. Medium Sized Class First Ladies - Adult Women of all ages / Room 134 (Parlor)Women gather to learn from Scripture. Medium Sized Class Genesis - Age Range: 30's-40's / Room 219Parents of children of various ages engage in study and fellowship to enrich their families as they grow in faith. Large Class Inquirers - Age Range: 60+ / Room 207This is one of the longest running classes at First Church as well as a great "second family" to learn and grow with. Bible study and a monthly dinner/party with games and stimulating conversation. Small Class Listening Hearts, Learning Minds - Age Range: 30-45 / Room 220This class is designed for adults with elementary school-age children. Studies focus on the Bible; raising healthy, faithful children; and living faithfully in family and community. Class socials increase the sense of group fellowship and provide a way Medium Sized Class Morphis Class - Age Range: 60+ / Room 200Composed primarily of senior adults but always open to anyone of any age. You will receive a warm welcome and inspirational lessons, lectures, and discussions, as well as lively social events. A praying and caring support group. Medium Sized Class New Aldersgate - Age Range: 50+ / Room 209Couples and singles are welcome for seasonal studies and special-emphasis studies based on class interest in the Bible and the Church. Strong supportive environment. Small Class No Boundaries - Age Range: 20's-30's / Room 214A class consisting of married couples. Studies emphasize knowing the Bible and applying it to life today. Regular class socials strengthen the "support environment" of the class. Medium Sized Class Purpose Seekers - Age Range: 30's, 40's & 50's / Room 218A diverse group of adults come to explore and support the fundamentals of Christian faith through fun and spirituality, engaging discussions that promote Christian living and purpose. Medium Sized Class R.E. Porter - Age Range: 70+ / Room 127Named for a beloved former pastor, this class studies the United Methodist Church's adult curriculum and is active in many service opportunities with the church. Small Class Reflections - Age Range: 35-65 / Room 230This group's mission is to embrace strangers so that all may share and grow as we reflect on each other's life experiences in relation to the scriptures. Medium Sized Class Singles & Friends - Age Range: 30's-40's / Room 117Join our community of singles as we study Scripture, grow in our faith, and reach out to others. Small Class Vanguard I - Age Range: 55+ / Room 217Christian Education with emphasis on discussion. Great teachers from within. Well-rounded group keeps things lively. Regularly scheduled social activities. Come join us! Small Class Vanguard II - Age Range: 30-60 / Room 231This class is warm, welcoming, and accepting of everyone. We have many social activities and participate in numerous outreach and mission projects. Our class studies the quarterly Adult Bible Series and various other books chosen by members of the class. Small Class Wesleyan Fellowship - Age Range: 40-65 / Room 213Discussions in this group center on Scripture and how it applies to each of us. Small Class 11:00 Adult Sunday School Hour
Growing with God - Age Range: variety / Room 215A class for adult Christians of all ages who prefer an 11 a.m. study hour. Class is committed to exploring God's purpose in our lives through Bible study and reflection on how to live the faith in today's world.
