Music Ministry

Overview

FirstChurch uses music to generate excitement, beauty and inspiration in services of worship.  The choral and instrumental programs are intended to nurture those involved and to give a means of contributing in worship, outreach and praise as well as an opportunity for personal growth and enjoyment.  The FirstChurch Music Ministry welcomes anyone who would like to join in this most rewarding endeavor.  Whether you are a professional musician or someone who wishes to join a musical group for the first time, FirstChurch has a place for you. FirstChurch offers a variety of ensembles and musical styles for any musical taste and experience level. Adult Choirs

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir provides worship leadership each Sunday at the 11am service.  There are over 80 singers in this choir of various ability levels and requires no audition.  To join simply contact Nathan Frank, our music minister or come to a rehearsal.  Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:30pm in the choir room.  Childcare is provided.

Revelation Praise Band

GraceNotes

GraceNotes is a mixed chamber group that sing in worship directed by  The ensemble sings music from the Baroque period to the most contemporary style.  Members of this ensemble must also sing in the Chancel Choir.   Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 8:30-9:00pm. 

SpiritDove

SpiritDove is a small vocal ensemble for women directed by .  The ensemble sing in a variety of styles.  The group rehearses Sundays in the choir room on an as needed basis.

Adult Handbells

Chancel Ringers

The Chancel Ringers are our handbell ensemble for adults with music reading skills or some handbell experience. This handbell choir rehearses each Wednesday from 6:15-7:25pm in room 114.  To participate in the handbell program or for more information contact , Director of Music and Worship.

Instrumental Ensembles

FirstChurch Orchestra

The FirstChurch Orchestra is composed of adult and youth instrumentalists. Experience levels range from beginners to professional instrumental ensembles. They play regularly in the 8:30 and 11:00 worship services, as wells as Christmas and Patriotic POPS.  The FirstChurch Orchestra rehearses Sundays, 3:00-4:00pm in the Sanctuary.  If you have questions or would like to participate in the orchestra, please contact .

Small Instrumental Ensemble

FirstChurch enjoys a large group of talented instrumentalists in our Music Ministry.  Because of this blessing, we have a variety of small instrumental ensembles (brass/percussion, woodwinds and strings) who perform music in worship regularly.  Rehearsals for these groups are called on an "as-needed" basis.  If you would like to participate or have questions about any of our ensembles, contact .

We have choir activities for children aged 3 (as of September 1, 2012) through the 5th grade. We also have the opportunity for children to participate in our chime and bell programs.  If you have questions regarding the Children's Music Ministry, please contact , Children's Choir Coordinator.

Youth Choirs

NHYC Youth Choir

The NHYC Youth Choir is one of the great traditions at FirstChurch.  For forty years the NHYC has lead the 8:30am worship service on Sundays as well as singing at other events in the greater Plano community.  The choir rehearses separately by age group on Sunday afternoons in the choir room.  The High School Choir rehearses 4:00 to 5:00 and the Middle School Choir rehearses 5:45-6:45.
